Our body takes myo-inositol and converts it into d-chiro-inositol. A few studies have been performed on Myo-Inositol and d-chiro-inositol to learn the results of using the supplement for Polycystic ovary syndrome. The results were favorable. D-chiro-inositol has been proven through various studies to be effective on improving insulin. However, Myo-Inositol has been proven to be more effective at improving infertility.
A clinical study that was published not long ago in the European Review Medical Pharmacology that looked at the effect that Myo-Inositol and d-chiro-inositol had on women that were undergoing fertility treatments. One group of women received 2g of myo-inositol two times per day while the second group received .5g of d0chiro-inositol two times per day. The results showed that the women that had been taking myo-inositol produced more mature and higher quality eggs as well as more pregnancies were reported from this group of women.
Due to the fact that d-chiro-inositol is created from myo-inositol, researchers believe that adding myo-inositol as a supplement may improve the levels of both of the inositol forms when it comes to fertility.
Major points of the study that should be noted include the study did not include women suffering from Polycystic ovary syndrome that were trying to get pregnant, all women had controlled insulin levels at the start of the study, the main focus of the study was centered on the development and quality of the eggs produced, and the myo-inositol brand used for the study, Inofolic, is not available in America. Even with the positive research reported, there is still not enough of evidence to support just how well myo-inositol will work to improve fertility and more studies are needed to confirm which inositol is better.
